Scheidel does a great job at not only touting the benefits of the Oracle IAM Suite, but also addresses the IAM space more holistically (although at a high level) regarding problems and challenges, and how the O-IAM suite can help address those challenges.The only recommendation to keep in mind is that, based on content, this book is targetted towards the original release of the 11g Suite; there have been some minor to significant updates in 11g updates that will not be touched upon in this book, but bring significant value to the overall SI.
I work for a small, vendor-agnostic IAM consulting boutique out of Silicon Valley. This book is a hidden gem due to it being published by Oracle Press. Don't let that fool you. The author presents spot-on advice from the customer's POV on how to startup and carry on an internal IAM engagement. Jeff hits all the right points with the right amount of weight. This is EXACTLY how we carry on IdM consulting engagements for our customers.How to engage your business stakeholders, what's important to look at and weigh, how to gain C-Level approvals, the importance of setting up a governance committee, etc. are all covered. Most of what I would call the "Top 10" items necessary for a successful IAM/IdM engagement are in this book. The first six chapters are completely vendor agnostic and worth the price of the book by itself, especially if you are the customer trying to gain perspective on such an undertaking. The rest of the book beyond the first six chapters is still pretty light, comparatively, on Oracle specifics and heavy on methodology, practice and taking a pragmatic approach. Highly recommended.If you are looking for a book on OIA and/or OIM specifics, this isn't the book I would recommend. If you are looking to learn how to carry on an IAM/IdM engagement as a customer, this book is for you.
Designing an IAM Framework with OIM was a useful addition to the library - but the strength to me was more around the business relevant approach to Identity and Access Management rather than the specifics of Oracle.

The humor and customer stories included made for a readable book that provides good insight on why IAM is necessary for the modern enterprise, how to go about selecting, implementing and maintaining a solution that meets needs.
Working in IAM this is a great book for beginners or for referance. I keep on my desk clsoe by.
Very good, But is a little redundant.
So far hypotheticals and auditor horror stories. I guess my expectation of books lately of how to get things done is maybe an over simplification. I agree with the writers assessment of things but delivery is key to get through it and if you are at 90 pages at telling war stories and not getting to delivering content or solution I wonder why I bothered with this purchase. I am hoping this will change when I get to the end but at 365 pages and 1/3 through it I wish I can get my money back.
