Sydney, convinced the crash they killed her father is actually murder, refuses to accept his death could be an accident. When she sees June, the homecoming queen, at her father’s funeral and gravesite, Sydney becomes suspicious. What does June know and why would a popular girl like her want to befriend an outcast like Sydney?I wasn’t surprised to learn that debut ya writer Savannah Brown is also a poet. Her word building slows seamlessly, often dancing off the pages.THE TRUTH ABOUT KEEPING SECRETS is primarily an ode to love and grief with Sydney struggling at the acceptance stage, unwilling to believe her loving father could have died in a random accident. Ten percent of the book reads like a fast paced thriller, the rest is mostly inside Sydney’s head, processing her relationships and her father’s death with scenes with friends interspersed in between.Though there are thrilling aspects near the end of THE TRUTH ABOUT KEEPING SECRETS, it isn’t a thriller.

Amazing! I can honestly say that this is the best YA fiction i have ever read! I would recommend it to anyone and everyone.

The Truth about Keeping Secrets by Savanna Brown a five-star read that will twist you up. I know this is in the teen and YA category, but it will appeal to so any more people than just that genre, so pick it up if you like a good plot with plenty of deep drama and mystery that will keep you turning pages till the very last. This is a story that will stay with you Sydney’s journey will be one that you will be sharing with those who need a little support and direction. I am sure that I will be recommending this to many people I know especially those I come into contact with and need a gentle help, I expect this will do for them what a certain book my aunt gave me at a similar age. It changed my outlook on life and showed me another path that I may not have been on now if I hadn’t read that one novel. This has that power, you can see it flow from the pages. I would so love to see this as a series as I know many more people would be able to see the story that way, and this is one of those stories that needs to be seen by many. Definitely one of the best stories I will read this year and that’s saying something as we are only a matter of weeks into the year.

I absolutely loved this book; devoured it within a day of receiving it. Savannah has such a skillful way with words, developing the themes and relationships in this novel with such care and attention. It’s not exactly a thriller novel, but there are moments where the tension is palpable and physical—truly a testament to Savannah’s writing. I related to Sydney on several levels and this book has been resonating in my mind ever since I finished it. I’ve been following Savannah ever since her first poetry book and I really look forward to what she has in store.

TTAKS has been stuck in my head ever since I spent an entire night reading it. I seriously sat down, read the first line on my kindle, and then did not look up again until the thing was done and the sun was about to rise. This book is a masterclass in tension. Half the time, I didn't even know where it was coming from, but I FELT it. Every second, I felt it drawing me along to some destination I badly wanted to see, but at the same time, was terrified to reach.Sydney's voice... well... it's everything. The way she deals with her grief. The observations she makes about the people and events around her. Her sense of humor. Everything about her was fresh and original and ALIVE. Even the cadence of her thoughts spoke to me. Brown also has a way of orienting the reader firmly in the little moments through some kind of word magic. I was so completely in Sydney's head and in her body throughout the novel, if felt like I was RIGHT THERE, experiencing everything with her. It might have a bit to do with the fact that Brown's writing is also flat-out brilliant. Rich and smart and evocative. I wanted to fill the book with underlines and little love letters but I'm going to have to wait for my hard copy. This book will have you on the edge of your seat, every emotion engaged, and you are doing yourself a huge disservice if you do not go out and buy it. Right now.

Loved this. A true page-turner, thanks to the main character's utterly believable, natural, and realistic voice. I loveeee Sydney, loved being in her head, and enjoyed this story immensely. The emotional truth throughout is on another level, and I really appreciated it. The voice! Oh gosh, I could go on forever about the voice––it's unlike anything I've read in YA; it's bold, engrossing, and oh so perfect <3 Brown's writing is incredibly confident, skilful, and engaging, and I truly look forward to whatever they write next. The Truth About Keeping Secrets is a very brilliant debut.

There's so much to love about this book!1) The pacing Savannah Brown writes with is masterful. I was hooked early on and couldn't stop reading, and I'm a generally not a person who seeks out thrillers.2) Brown handles her themes masterfully, from friendship to the brutality of chance to abusive relationships to self-discovery. So. Good. SO GOOD.3) Brown dives deep into the relationships in the novel, portraying them with all the complexity they deserve. The romantic relationships, the tension between the protagonist and her mother, and friendships—Brown does justice to them all.4) Lastly, and most importantly for me, the characters are so perfectly drawn! Everyone is flawed. Everyone. It creates such realistic, profound conflict between the characters. My favorite example of this is the friendship between Sydney and her best friend—they both screw up, but it's so easy to connect with both their stances. There's only one villain in any of the conflicts in the novel, and it's not who you'd expect. ;)After googling the author, I was blown away to learn her age. I can't wait to read everything she writes.
