I think this is a typo from reading the other plans but it'd be nice to know what mileage should be run that day when I reach that week of training.

I picked up this book after completing a handful of beginner drum instruction books. This book is very thorough in its subject matter, but unfortunately will not work in my current state of self study. I found myself wishing I had a teacher to explain concepts by the middle of the 1st chapter. It just moved from easy to complex very quickly. I ended up getting a couple more "basic" books that are working out for the better. I will save this book for when I've laid down more groundwork.
This book is a system for learning how to create drum fills. Goes from basic to advanced. Starts with component concepts - which are the building blockss for creating fills. Progresses into hand/foot concepts, drum to cymbal concepts, roll concepts, double bass concepts, to groupings of 3,4,5.The only thing I would add when using this book - also add hihat openings, Ride cymbal bell (and anything else one might think of) into the orchestrations.For the groupings they are for the most part hand to hand,or hand to foot. Try adding some sticking patterns (i.e. paradiddles, inverted paradiddles into the mix).
As with his double-bass book, Jeff Bowders presents some complex ideas for fills in his new book, "Essential Drumset Fills," but does so in an accessible manner wherein each lesson builds on the next, resulting in steady musical and technical growth. I've only had the book for a week and have just finished the first chapter, but the motion exercises contained therein already have me rethining my approach to my stock arsenal of drum fills. Jeff presents the material in a straight-forward manner, and peppers the text here and there with inspirational quotes from various sources. All in all, I can see this book becoming a valuable tool for drumset instructors, as well as the player interested in spicing up his musical vocabulary. Plus, the accompanying CD sounds great, and provides well-recorded examples of various exercises, as well as several play-along tracks, both with and without drums, that suggest Bowders has plenty of great musical ideas floating around in his head. I highly recommend this book, and think drummers of every skill level, from rank neophytes to Virgil Donati disciples, will find something useful between its covers.
I already owned Jeff's first book and DVD, so when I saw this reviewed in Modern Drummer magazine (and also here on Amazon) I knew I wanted it. However, I was concerned about MD's mention of "119 glue-bound pages". I wondered if I would have problems with this book on my music stand. I ordered it and was NOT disappointed!

I bought this package a couple of months ago. I have not had the time to practice a lot, but so far I can see that it is a very good book. Eye opener.Let me put it this way, I hope that some day I will be able to take lessons from this guy.Very good book.
this is by far the best fills book you will ever fall on, and the other fill books in the market (that i fell on) are either boring or too "school like" very very ugly fills. like march band fills etc.the audio is crystal clear,their is much information about fills not to bore you for ages.various difficulties from begginners to veteransi'm very moody when it comes to practicing, and this book has fill themes segregated, a chapter for double bass fills, a chapter for cymbal fills a chapter for motion , grouping etc.... so depending on what you feel like you can practice,this is the only book i found that has FILLS YOU Actually here in many of your favorite bands songs and wondered how the [...]did he do this :D very nicely worked fills.this book has helped me a lot!! if you want your fills to move to another level, buy that book.-ve points:-just like any other book, although the audio is around 70 tracks you have around 500 fills in the book and sometimes you wonder if some of the advanced fills you're playing sound right.one more thing the beats jeff plays before the fills are amazing, very groovy, you can pick some ideas from the grooves. not like the other boring books where you hear the same toub tak /toub toub tak beat on the whole audio :P5/5 get the book...

I wasn't sure what I was getting into with MY BEST FRIEND'S EXORCISM. Nostalgia? Horror? Comedy? A little bit of all of those things would be the fair summary. The first chunk of the book details how our main character Abby becomes friends with Gretchen, and their personal history is peppered with a number of pop culture references that instantly make the characters relatable to anyone over thirty years old. For younger readers, some of these references may be alienating, like how the girls dressed up like Madonna and sang "Like a Virgin" in the mirror (though honestly, teen girls have done this for decades now--if not Madonna, then Britney Spears or Selena Gomez to younger readers--and that Hendrix taps into shows an awareness of how pop culture obsession becomes a rite of passage). These references certainly place the book in its time and place when there was a growing public fright of devil worship and eighties' debauchery. The possession affecting Gretchen starts in subtle ways that become more obvious as the book goes on, but through it all, where the reader is able to plow forward through all the challenges is through Abby's care for Gretchen. You want not only for the girls to live but for their friendship to continue as well. It's a fast-paced read that is one part John Hughes and one part Robert Bloch. My only quibble is that Hendrix's writing, while enjoyable and interesting, feels like the story's being told from a distance where the reader learns everything about the characters as if someone else is telling them, almost a clinical kind of narration. It makes it a bit hard to fully immerse in the story, but it is still a great read.Recommended for: young adult and older readers, people who grew up during the 1980s, horror-comedy fans, fans of unusual friendship stories
I'll be honest, I bought this book solely because of the cover! Seriously, this is the single greatest cover in the history of paperbacks! It reminds me of walking through those quirky old independent video stores back in the '80s and '90s and discovering some crappy, wonderful hidden VHS gem.The cover is appropriate because the novel takes place in the 1980s. While it does deal with satanic possession, it's really about the normal ups-and-downs of teenage friendship. While I'm a middle-aged man, I felt a great connection with and sympathy for these two teenage, female protagonists. There are a few stock characters, but they seem reminiscent of the stock characters you find in '80s horror movies (the arrogant rich girl, the brainy girl, the jock with only one thing on his mind, etc.). Indeed, these characters only highlight the two girls at the center of the story.While this story is mostly dramatic horror, there are a few moments of real, shudder-inducing horror. I highly recommend "My Best Friend's Exorcism."

All the '8o's awesomeness present blew my brains out my skull. It looks like a video cassette straight outta the golden age of horror VHS. I promptly ordered my copy.The lesson here: authors, please know that covers matter. Just say NO to bad book covers.MY BEST FRIEND'S EXORCISM by Grady Hendrix is about two best friend's (Gretchen and Abby) and the power of friendship. Yes, there is a demon. Yes, Gretchen gets possessed. Yes, some really disturbing stuff happens, but most of the horror here is in the background. You know somethings coming, but you get so caught up in Abby's life that you kinda forget you're reading a horror book.Filled with great characters and a ton of rad '80's references (the story starts in '82, but mostly takes place in '88), Hendrix hit all my reading joy spots. His writing style in this book was very straight-forward and easy to follow, a flow reminiscent of Hunter Shea and Adam Cesare. I couldn't put it down. I usually read multiple books, but once I started this one, I couldn't stop.Unfortunately, the ending fell flat and left me more depressed than satisfied. Once we get to the exorcism, well, Hendrix skirts the classic Exorcist battle, making his more lightweight and cheesy. Honestly, it fits the '80's, but I wanted it to be so much more. The one aspect of the ending I did appreciate was that police show up after the exorcism. You never see that in these books.I'd say about 85% of this books is fantastic. Even with that ending, I can see this book landing in my Top 5 Reads of 2017. If you're an '80's kid, go grab this one now!I'm giving MY BEST FRIEND'S EXORCISM 4.5 stars.

I thought this book was very unique and gave it as a wedding gift to the couple going to bora bora whom felt it was very interesting.
Focuses on the 2 most expensive resorts with an overview of some other resorts, wish it covered a little more of the mainland

My partner and I are planning a holiday to bora bora and purchased this book to help with our planning. It is such a wonderful and comprehensive guide of bora bora and has everything you need to know before booking a trip. It saved us so much time in our planning. We didn't want to spend hours and hours online looking at websites and trying to decide where to stay and what activities to do. We also found that the book had information on lots of things that we werent even really considering (like local festivals). We also really enjoyed the section on "a week in bora bora" because it helped to figure out what we could fit into each day. We are even planning on copying some of the itinerary. Its clear that the authors have a real love for Bora Bora and this comes through in the book. We can't wait for our trip and would highly recommend this book to anyone who is planning a trip!
