Every American should/must read this book. It reminds you that freedom is fragile. There are always people who want to control you for their own purpose. Be alert. Separation of Church and State simply means the US Govt will not establish a state religion. THAT IS ALL!. If a criminal goes into a Christian Church or a Jewish House of worship or a Mosque, the authorities can still pursue the person. An American is an idea. It is not from where you came from, not about your religion, not about the color of your skin. It is about you as an individual, about your liberty, about the fact that you elect people to govern. The government works for you! Read it to know exactly how you can stay free.
I can't add much that has not already been said by the hundreds of reviews. I will say that this is a book of supreme importance. Gorka is now a member of the government and we should read his book to see what he thinks. He presents his points clearly and plainly without a lot of literary flourish.I will also say that I have been looking into Islam and Jihad for a decade with focus and deliberation but I still learned a good deal about Islam that I had not known prior to reading Gorka's book.
when referring to "understanding" people often think the reference is to pity, allowance or other laudable traits. In this case the term refers to the proper way in which to engage someone with differing views. First, one must understand their basic philosophy, objectives as well as means of achieving their goals. As Dr. Gorka points out, the bedrock beliefs espoused by Islam are such that any attempt to find a solution without UNDERSTANDING Islam is bound to fail. The second point is that trying to effect change in Islam using Western Values is and has proven to be futile. While there may be a question of "if" or "how" to get involved, any intervention must be based on effecting change by recognizing reality. Dr. Gorka points out that Islamic Jihad can be addressed in a manner similar to old school time proven theories employed with respect to the cold war. The reader is free to agree or disagree, but I believe that this work answers many of the questions that have eluded many prior administrations.
This book tells the real story a fundamentalist Muslim terrorism. It is a must read for all our political leaders, or military, and all our police departments. It is also a must read for everyone in the US to fully understood what we are up against and the copperhead submiss of this attack on our country, the free world, and even the Muslim world.
The author very patiently and carefully leads the reader through the political and ideological foundations of Islam. He steadily makes a compelling case using examples of previous campaigns against enemies foreign and domestic.He points out the fallacies of current US efforts to counter radical Jihadist movements such as ISIS.Unlike other books that point out a issue and run away, the author provides a concise plan for defeating the radical extremists.This is a fantastic book.

The Jihad leaders are very adept at using the Internet and social media to spread their hateful ideology. They are not the “JV†team. They are experts at what they do. In the final chapter Gorka tells us we can and must do to defeat Islamic terrorists and their organizations. One of the first steps is to educate yourself, because the MSM is not reporting what they should.
Dr. Sebastian Gorka gives you a comprehensive historical beginnings of Jihad to present day. I would highly recommend his book if you want to understand Radical Islam and what needs to be done to protect our Country.
I had a strong feeling that Dr. Gorka should be CIA Director before reading this book. Afterwards, I'm thinking that if it doesn't happen we are doomed. We should never, ever be 'buddying up' with any terrorist or country that does. Period. The only one saying that is Dr. Gorka. Complete and utter destruction is the one and only option. Read the book and you will agree.

Another great author. I enjoy reading these books.
Jane Feather's master of suspense and grasp of history give her expressive prose vividness.She is a consumate storyteller and uses words that ordinary writers of romantic fiction just don't have in their vocabulary.
Jane does it again... An author that never seems to fail at giving you a story you cannot put down. This is Pippa's story with a little of Robin's to boot...

I really enjoyed reading this book. Jane Feather never ceases to keep me interested in her characters.
At a buck, ninety- nine, I was semi entertained while sleepily recuperating My review might have been more enthusiastic if I had not yet read the next book in the series.
When I picked up this book I thought it was a historical fiction without realizing it was actually a romance novel which took place in the sixteen century. The book didn’t have much of a story line like most romance novels, but the way it was written, in terms of content, the sentence structures, the description of the inner world and feelings of the characters, and the terribly story telling, was just wonderful. However this is the first romance novel I have ever read (I don’t read much of those, other than picking up the wrong book here and there.) with explicit sexual content I didn’t care for. Overall it is a very well-written book although I could do without the sexually explicit part.
What I really liked about "To Kiss A Spy" was that Jane Feather took such great care to get the feel of this turbulent period in English history right. She accurately portrays the political jockeying for power and the international intrigue that was going on behind the scenes even as the young boy king, Edward VI, lay dying; and how ordinary people, who had very little interest in political power got sucked into the dangerous game of chance that powerful land barons were playing in the early 16th century. Of course the fact that this was also a romance novel that featured a determined and intelligent heroine, and an enigmatic and intriguing hero, helped make this historical romance novel a truly marvelous read as well!The novel opens with Lady Pen Bryanston, the eldest daughter of Lady Guinevere Mallory (from "The Widow's Kiss") valiantly trying to give birth. She is a recent widow (her husband had died of a mysterious illness). But through all the pain of childbirth, and even though she is heavily drugged, she feels herself give birth to a life child; so that she's quite horrified when she is told by her mother-in-law, a truly evil woman, that she had given birth to a son but that it was stillborn. Because of this, Pen's husband's lands and title pass on to his weak younger brother who is completely ruled by his mother. The novel than fast forwards a couple of years. Pen is now a lady-in-waiting to Princess Mary (the daughter of Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon), but she has never given up hope that her son is still alive and that she will find him. In the meantime, the young king is dying, and it looks as if Princess Mary will be next in line for the English throne. However, Mary is Catholic, and the religion of England is fervently Protestant. The Duke of Northumberland, John Dudley, has a bold plan in mind keep England Protestant (and to maintain his hold on the throne) involving the Duke of Suffolk's eldest daughter, Jane Grey, who is a Tudor by blood as well as an ardent Protestant. And this is where Owen d'Arcy, the hero of this novel enters the picture. A Frenchman, Owen is in the pay of the Holy Roman Emperor, who also happens to be Princess Mary's uncle, and he fears for his niece's future. Owen is sent to England in order to infiltrate the English court. The plan is for Owen to seduce Lady Pen Bryanston, and to get her to spy on the Princess for them -- talk about a plan full of loopholes! Pen however turns the tables on Owen: used to being able to seduce women with a few charming words and smiles, he is stunned when Pen seems to be impervious to his charms. However, Owen soon finds a way to get to Pen, by agreeing to help discover, once and for all, if Pen's child had indeed died at childbirth, or if the Dowager Countess of Bryanston had something to do with the child's disappearance. In exchange for his help, Pen agrees to spy on the Princess for Owen. However this simple contract soon becomes complicated by the growing attraction that Pen and Owen feel for each other, and by the reappearance on Pen's stepbrother, Robin, who is an agent of Northumberland's and who warns Pen to be on her guard against Owen, a man who has a dark past involving his own wife and children. What is Pen to do? Whom is she to believe? Instinctively, Pen doesn't believe Robin's claims, but surely her beloved stepbrother would not lie to her? Things become especially tense when it becomes all too obvious that the king is not long for this earth. With time running out, Pen and Owen must work their way through mistrust in order to successfully achieve their different goals. But can they do so?My advice is to either buy this book at once (if you can afford it) or else reserve a copy at your local library, for "To Kiss A Spy" is a romance novel not to be missed. The romance that develops between Pen and Owen is electric and memorable, and refreshingly grown-up! And the plot is not one to be sneezed at either! And I liked the manner in which Feather used historical actuality as a backdrop to this fictional romance -- making this novel more substantial and interesting a read. All the characters were nicely developed (esp Pen, who possessed all the intelligence and determination and courage that every romance reader hopes the heroine would), and the plot unfolded at a breakneck pace 'that made' me devour this novel in one setting. Another thing in this novel's favour is that in spite of the many diverse subplots -- the political intirigue, the hunt for Pen's child, and the developing romance between Pen and Owen -- nothing gets sidelined. Truly a fun read.

Excelent book!
Mary Margaret funk has written a complete series of books relating to the teachings of Lectio Divina. I started with "Thoughts Matters" and I'm glad I did,it explained everything that would later come in my study of lectio.
The author provides some good food for thought in this book as she attempts to make the writing of John Cassian and the desert fathers accessible to the average reader. Unfortunately, the book is burdened by poor organization and writing style that often distracts the reader from the point she is trying to make. Sentences often seem disjointed and there are frequent, unnecessary repititions. A good editor could have greatly improved this book, and it is worth improving. Perhaps some day we will see a second edition.
I have practiced lectio divina in the past and benefited by it, and I had wanted to delve more deeply than before, but when I came across Funk's chapter on eating three meals a day and only three meals a day and found no room given for those of us with health issues relating to the digestive system or diabetes or other diseases that involve a need to eat in a different way, that this was given as the only way without exception and the only way to have a contemplative life, I was so turned off I could not read further. Maybe I was supposed to jump over that part and know it simply could not apply to me, but it seemed callous and difficult, not only for me, but for others sakes as well, as I suffer great pain in my body with regard to digestion and how I must eat to survive. I am certain there is much good here for those who can follow this particular part of the path. I am in need of compassion and caring, a looking ahead in the writing of another to the exceptions to such hard and fast rules. Maybe that is addressed later in her book, and if so, I apologize for not looking further, but something as serious as this for so many is important enough to be addressed in context.
In Thoughts Matter (Discovering the Spiritual Journey) Sr. Meg retrieves for us in contemporary language and modern day settings what John Cassian wrote about in the 4th century. How by knowing our thoughts and stabilizing them we can seek union with God who is our heart's desire. Since reading Thoughts Matter I have become aware of my thoughts, which ones lead me to God (virtues), which ones lead me away from God (vices) and how to catch them at the earliest opportunity. My thoughts are in service of my relationship with God and a skilful means of sustaining that relationship. Also Thoughts Matter has been a great help to me in creating an ever presence of a Christ consciousness in my life. Thanks Sr. Meg for highlighting this desert tradition. Ann F.

Just got this book and it Rocks ! The photos are richly reproduced, most in full page format. The innovative use of textured backgrounds paired with some of the craziest looking toys ever made, make this book a must for your coffee table.This book is pure , 100% eye candy to feed your imagination..it's no wonder many if not all the current hot designers and artists have been influenced by Japanese toys, old and new.
I'm so happy to see a book that has a whole chapter dedicted to female heroines (and villains)! The chapter is called Rockin' Chicks. I never knew such great female characters existed. Only in Japan. The other chapters are fun too. Ultraman is in the Men In Rubber chapter. My brother and I watched Ultraman when we were kids. I totally forgot about Ultraman until I saw him in this book and all of the memories came back. (I actually bought this book for my brother but when it arrived I decided to keep it for myself. Bad sister! I ordered him one too.) The photos are so vivid and the design is great. I recommend this book to anyone who knows all about these Japanese shows (like my brother who loved it) or anyone who has an imagination. I have a new heroine and her name is Mimina! Great book.

The author ("Jimbo", obviously not his real name), most likely some kind of bike riding hero in strange suit himself, has managed to capture the flavor and oddity of the strange and wonderful world the japanese have created. The beautiful photography is a catalog of the bizarre no culture miner should be without. This book should serve as a "must-have" resource for students of Japan, Kaiju, Anime, Toys, and anyone who can't resist the lure of brightly colored vinyl.
I'm not a collector or anything but I just thought these characters were so cool, most of them i've never seen before, all in close up details and really great color. I completely recommend it for the money.
This book is pretty darn rootin' tootin'! I bought this book because I heard it had some great photos and info on some of the old TV shows I watched as a child (Johnny Sokko, Ultraman, et al)- and it didn't let my expectations down! Every time I turned a page I had another flash down memory lane. The writing is pretty good, too- witty and entertaining! All in all a great book and now I know what my friends are all getting for Christmas!!!
This book is an amazing collection of killer photos and really hard to find information about the Japanese Toy characters that dominated all those tv shows for decades. As a designer and a toy enthusiast, I own it and love it. Hey it's 13 f'in dollars. you cant go wrong. Just to have all the photos alone is worth way more than that.
I first saw this book on a friend's coffee table. Once I'd looked it over, I knew I had to have a copy of my own. I am amazed at how many Japanese toys are included. I used to watch some of the Japanese shows when I was a kid (such as Ultraman - and yes he's included in the book), but I am awed on just how much I've missed. This book has peeked my curiosity to see more. What I find fasinating is the key in the back of the book which includes not only who currently owns each of the splendid toys displayed in the book, but also what year they came out. Some of these toys are older than I am! So Crazy Japanese Toys does a fantastic job of displaying each toy in full page pictures. Too bad there's not a chapter depicting hero vs. villian picturing the two characters duelling. Is there a sequel in the works?
This book is a must have for Japanese vinyl doll collectors or for those who appreciate awesome pictures. The book could have featured more vinyls, but I'm not complaining.

Robert Whitlow is one of my favorite authors. In fact, he is also one of my husband’s favorites and one of my book club’s favorites. We are all very excited when a new novel is released. So it was with the great anticipation of a good read that I opened the cover of Chosen People. Oh, my goodness! Chosen People moves up to the top of the list for best book by Whitlow. This book has it all! It gets a highly recommended rating from me.Chosen People is legal drama at its best — an intriguing case, determined attorneys seeking justice, and clients that deserve the best of outcomes. Add to this a timely backdrop of international terrorism, a mix of cultures and beliefs, and the setting of Israel, and you get a book that is sure to please the most discerning of readers. Whitlow has succeeded in bringing to life the vibrant world of modern Israel from the perspectives of Israeli Jew and Arab, and those who visit from other parts of the world. The lawsuit that main characters Hana, Jakob, and Daud pursue is a complex mix of American anti-terrorism laws, financial investigations, and dark underworld connections. It kept this reader engaged throughout. The early parts of the book deal heavily with the case, but it soon becomes apparent that there is danger for all who are connected to the case. And while I loved the intricacies of the law, the characters were the real star. I had several favorites, but it is Hana Abboud, an Israeli Arab Christian working as a lawyer in Atlanta, that captured my imagination. She is obviously skilled in her work, but her faith is real and alive and was inspiring on many levels. She cares for all people regardless of their ethnicity or religion. Hana indeed is a woman who lives out her faith in tangible ways. She describes it to her co-counsel in this way: . . . my relationship with God through Jesus is my core. I know that’s a religious statement, but it’s not just a belief or an idea; it transforms everything about who I am and how I relate to all people, regardless of who they are and where they come from.†(p.354). What a great statement! There are many powerful, faith-filled moments in this book that add a depth to an already excellent legal suspense novel.My book club will be reading Chosen People in the coming months. I cannot wait to hear where our discussion will take us. Grab this book and some friends — you will want to talk about it when you are finished.Highly Recommended.Great for Book Clubs.Audience: Adults.
I have read and enjoyed several of the author's previous books and was attracted to this book because of the story line. It seemed interesting in today's political climate. Christian novels tend to fall into one of two categories. The first is the novel as a "Sermon disguised as a book". The author has a spiritual message they want to convey and they come up with some half way reasonable (or not) plot to use as a context for the 'real' message. They usually aren't too hard to spot. The second category is to try and write a strong story with realistic moments of faith and spirituality woven into but not dominating the story. This particular story seemed to have a hard time determining what it wanted to be. Some of the 'sermonizing' seemed forced and did not help the overall story. For example, how many times do you need to mention the characters praying before a meal? Some parts of the story didn't seem to flow well because you had to get the characters into the right locations to hear the message they were supposed to hear. Maybe it's because when I pick up a novel I'm looking for a compelling story about the main subject with realistic and appropriate 'side stories' that this one just didn't quite do it for me. The story was good but and at times held my interest but not great and the faith part seemed forced much of the time. Three stars all the way.
Robert Whitlow is a favorite author of mine. He lives in North Carolina, and attended the UGA Law School. He writes stories about people living in the South. Well, I also live in the South. South Georgia, in fact, with UGA history and years of vacationing in North Carolina. So, yes, I am partial. I have enjoyed each book Whitlow has written.Now, jump to his new novel, Chosen People. Robert Whitlow has written his finest novel yet!!! It is outstanding on many levels. One, he has matured as a writer and story teller. Two, he has written a complicated plot. Three, he has written a novel that has taught me many tidbits concerning Israel, Arabs, and the Middle East. He has done so with a continuing Christian message, which is not sappy or overstated.Do yourself a favor, buy Chosen People. Do, what I did, and mark the pages that teach you something you did not know about this area of the world, so you can refer to it long after you have finished this novel. You'll be glad you did.
CHOSEN PEOPLE by WhitlowThis book of FULL of plots and mini-plots all introduced as interesting side-stories but none showing a really good reason to be melded into the primary story line. Once I figured that out, I quickly ‘read’ each entire subplot by ‘thumbing through’ the book to isolate/read the chapters related to a that particular subplot. Because the subplots were so unrelated, I found that this approach did not interfere with reading the main plot at all. What it did do was keep the mini-plots from acting as a constant distraction in reading/enjoying the intriguing primary story line presented by the author.
Robert Whitlow is one of my favorite novelists, for both his writing skill and his obvious research into his topics. And, of course, he is a lawyer, which adds depth to the legal aspects of his tales. Owning and having read half a dozen, or more, of his books, I have to rate this as one of his very best, with foreshadowing that just isn't well taught, to everyone who wants to publish books. One character in Chosen People, in particular, seemed utterly genuine, but I could not dismiss entirely just the hint of suspicion that he would prove false. To say more about that would require a spoiler alert, so I will not continue. If you want a novel that is miles above the average book, these days, please read Chosen People.I bought my copy of Chosen People for my Kindle. Had I bought a print copy, I might have torn pages out in my quest to reach the end!

While attending college at Nihon University, in 1988, Kentaro Miura debuted a 48-page manga known as Berserk Prototype, an introduction to the current Berserk fantasy world. The Berserk manga series by Kentaro Miura is one that speaks for itself. Often known as the "Game of Thrones" of manga, the story is complex and ingenious, the art is godlike, and the content is very adult. It has seen several anime adaptations, each with their own pros and cons, but nothing beats the original manga.While this series has seen many omnibus (multiple books in one) releases both in Japan and in other languages such as in Europe (I know the German release has one off the top of my head), it has always been a single-book edition in English. With 40 volumes now in Japanese (Dark Horse still has no release date for volume 40 as of this writing), and a retail price of nearly $600 for all the books, Berserk certainly is an expensive and lengthy hobby to get into. An omnibus format is preferable by many collectors such as myself, but if this series had seen a standard 3-in-1 paperback release such as the VizBigs of Dragon Ball Z, Vagabond, etc, I probably would not have double dipped (I already own every single volume). But when Dark Horse announced a deluxe edition of the manga, with leather hardback, in full magazine size, I just had to get it, and I can guarantee you it is worth it.Now on to the book itself. You can see how this edition is sized compared to the single volumes in the pictures attached, and it is certainly much bigger. The illustrations are much easier to follow, and the sound effects, originally untranslated in the first 11 volumes by Dark Horse, are now translated, which was a welcome addition. The faux leather binding is very nice as well. Collectors will be happy to hear that all three textless, original cover art pieces for the first 3 volumes are included at the back of the book on glossy paper. The manga itself is not glossy paper, but I would say that does not reduce its value at all. No other pages are in color, unfortunately, but that is just how DH was given the materials from the Japanese publisher. It has a ribbon bookmark on the spine, and the spine itself is also sewn and not glued, so you do not have to worry when laying it open on a table. At the end of the book is a one-page background on Kentaro Miura. While this omnibus will save a little bit of horizontal shelf space, it is much taller. My only gripe with the book is that it was printed in China, unlike with the rest of the series which was printed in the USA, but seeing as there are no visible drawbacks or obvious cheap decisions, I will keep my review at a full 5/5. Now I just need to figure out what to do with all my single volumes if I keep getting these Deluxe Editions. Hah!I received this volume from Amazon for nearly 50% off due to its preorder price, which was very nice. Otherwise, its $50 retail value is probably pretty pricey for many. For those looking to get into Berserk for the first time, this edition will probably not save you any money (although it is very worth it!) It is unfortunate that the book seems to be selling out, and many preorders have been pushed back weeks if not months while Dark Horse prints more. Good for Miura and DH, but not so ideal for the consumers. Hope it gets sorted out soon, Amazon should really place caps on preorders for stock they do not have.Can't wait to see more of these editions! Will probably take 4 or more years for it to catch up (not to mention Miura's hiatuses), so if you're not that big of a collector and just want to read the series, the single volumes are probably your better option.
GOOD: The 1st Berserk Deluxe volume covers the first 3 standard size volumes of the Manga while having much larger pages and a handsome hard cover with Guts' brand embossed into the front. The paper used is noticeably higher quality compared to the regular books.BAD: The largely increased page size caused some blow-up issues. Some smaller panels or flawed finer details become much more obvious once resized.My book arrived slightly damaged from shipping. 3 of the 8 corner covers of the book have bent in, dog-eared impact damage locations and the front of the book has a small but noticeable pen width half-inch indent on the top of the front cover. A single bubble wrap slip case could have mitigated such damage but it came in only a plastic lined Manila envelope. The envelope had been ripped at multiple points and taped over.
I have just received this goliath of a copy of berserk and its way more of a better print than I thought it would be.If your a hard fan of berserk and love collecting manga this is a must buy, it has a simple design like Death note blackedition, is tall as the Battle angel Alita manga prints, and its thicc real thicc.

Outstanding! Completely beautiful, amazing for any collector. Mine came shrink - wrapped with zero damage whatsoever inside a perfectly sized thick cardboard box! Deluxe 2 & 3 are already pre-ordered as well. This is a must-have, imo. Love it.
Amazing just buy it
Reviewing the content alone this is a 5 star product, Berserk is one of the best series around and if you're new to the series this is a great place to start.That said the manga has been in print for sometime now and what you're most likely to be interested in is what makes this "Deluxe" edition standout from what might already exist on your shelf. Well to be honest...not as much as I would have hoped. There is nothing in the way of extras, no interviews, designs, creator commentary, etc. and most disappointing in my mind this edition still does not include the color pages in their original form (yep still black and white here). It's still a good product, the binding is solid and the size increase feels substantial which really brings out the art, but if you already own berserk there's nothing here you don't already have. If you're brand new to the series you may consider going the deluxe route, but for long time fans looking to upgrade you're probably better off getting the digital editions if you just want bigger pictures.
