On the other, the arrangement between Forge (Jericho) and India is a little lopsided – or at least it seems that way on the surface. All in all, though, I’m completely fascinated by the entire plot, all the players, and attempting to decipher how things are going to play out as the series continues.I was there for Jericho Forge, his intensity, and his desire to avenge those who did him wrong. He often came across as heavy-handed, but there was something underlying all of that bravado that made me care for him and want to know all his secrets. I was also incredibly affected by the way he thought about India, even as he was trying to insist she was nothing but a means to an end. The man definitely knows no bound when it comes to taking what he wants and protecting what is his, so I can’t wait to see what he has in store for us in the next book.India is a little more of a question mark for me. Though Forge can read her like a book, I feel like her poker face – as far as what we’ve been allowed to see as readers – is nearly impenetrable. She’s a wild card (pun not intended), and she manages to surprise me with startling frequency. I live for the moments she lets her walls down, and we get a peek at the true her and can’t wait to unpeel all the layers she’s hidden behind.Deal with the Devil is spectacularly well-plotted and fast-paced. Every time I thought I was going to have a little time to catch my breath before the next shoe dropped there was another revelation flying at me. I have so much to think about, so many strings to follow and try to untangle to solidify my theories before the next book, I don’t know if I’ll get anything straightened out before Luck of the Devil releases.Deal with the Devil is the first book in Meghan March’s Forge Trilogy. This series is one continuous storyline written in three volumes and must be read in order. The Forge trilogy is unrelated to Ms. March’s other series. Deal with the Devil is written in dual first-person perspective, narrated by India and Forge.
Let me preface by saying that I loved the Fifty Shades Trilogy. Never felt like the lead female was ever forced into anything. There was a real chemistry between the two and the build up was realistic. I am all about mystery, experimenting, and non-traditional starts to relationships. However, I could not even get through the first half of Chapter 1 of this book. The heroine is a world-famous poker player. Smart, savvy and calm. Obviously can take care of herself and succeed in a male-dominated arena. However, when she loses a bet with the male lead that requires her to have sex with him, and she believes that she can never play another poker game again unless she has sex with him because that would look bad on her for not carrying through with a bet, now you have totally insulted me. It's one thing if the two were just totally hot for each other and wanted a one-night stand. I'd be on board with that. But, in this day and age, a woman is has to have sex with someone to save her reputation? That's just beyond bad taste. Hello Harvey Weinstein....come on. Stop trying so hard to keep up with the others of hot trilogies. This is pathetic.
This book is such a disappointment. I've loved every one before this... what a mess. Definitely not up to MM's norm. Hope it's just a blip. Look forward to the next trilogy, I'll reread the other book's in the meantime.

He has an enemy and he is determined to make him pay in any way he can.The woman who catches his eye is intelligent and street smart. She is confident, savvy, proud, strong, and untrusting of men. She has a fiery temper and can be bold and impulsive. And she challenges him like no other woman ever has. She's got problems. He is willing to help...for a price.Will she sell her soul to the unknown devil in order to take care of someone she does care about?This woman finds herself in a world of intrigue, wealth, hidden agendas, secrets, lies, suspense, and danger. It is hard to tell who to trust and who is scheming who. She just wants to feel safe and to keep those she loves safe as well. She could just be a pawn. She could be a game changer. But only one man truly has the answers and he tends to share only when he feels necessary.I got sucked right into this new spin-off world. I loved the new settings and vibe. LOVED Jericho! Oh my, he is stoic and likes control, but I loved when he would be surprised by his own thoughts and feelings. She is a bad*** heroine who is not afraid to take him on. I really liked this couple together...their banter, their passion, and how they challenged each other. I enjoyed getting both of their points of view since they were both guarded and did not share all the details with the other.There is a lot going on under the surface and the mysteries kept me guessing. I was swept up in their story and sent reeling with some twists. I cannot wait to read more of their story and see how things fit together.
I just hate books that leave you dangling! The writing is jerky and India and Forge don’t seem to have any idea what they are doing or what they want. It’s incoherent.

I have run a Linux system for almost 15 years....got sick of the cost of Window and its upgrades, not to mention the unexplained crashes...and get along good with PCLinuxOS. Once in a while though, I need to correct something that's not doing what I want. Since I only learn about such things that directly affect me and/or my computer, it's often easier to use this book than to sort thru Google and its suggestions and certainly easier than going to classes for computers. I'm 79 years old, high school education, started messing with computers in my mid 60's, and don't even have Windows on my computer anymore. So, don't tell me Linux is intended for "kids" and techs; I'm way more into gardening, horses, saddlemaking, domestic rabbits, chickens and such. If I can make my Linux system do what I want....with the help of this book....so can you. Try it.
This has been an amazing book. It should have been the first thing I ever read on Linux. You might think that it's a specialist book of some kind - after all, it is only about the command line. But the command line is where it's at and the author doesn't assume you know anything about Linux. It's actually a complete introduction to Linux and at each step of the way you have a new skill you can start to apply or just something to screw around with on your computer. I mean, there's nothing in Linux that can't be done on the command line. Graphical user interfaces are just a pretty presentation of what's going on underneath. Some people might grumble at "having to learn the command line" but honestly it feels very powerful once you get the handle on it (not as hard as you'd think) and I think linux actually makes doing stuff in the terminal much more fun, intersting, and powerful than in Windows or OSX.It starts out with navigating folders and files, copying and what-not like you could do through menus and right clicking on a GUI. Then it teaches you some cool tricks you can only do in the command line (and aren't that difficult) like making a folder for each of the letters A-Z (it happens to be sudo mkdir {A..Z} so again, not as hard as you might think). Or maybe you want to find a folder on your computer whose third letter is either a p or a q - you can't quite remember. There's a chapter on permissions which allows you to, say, make a file that is only accessible to users in the group "teachers," or maybe you just want to turn a text document (say you compiled something from C) into something your computer knows can be run. It tells you how to alter the command prompt to display pretty pictures or show a clock. There's a chapter on the very cool way Linux installs programs. It will even teach you some very basic computer programming concepts, enough to start customizing your linux, and how to install a program from source code (again, it's easier than you think).So it really runs the gamut of all the basics of how Linux works and I think by actually typing in the commands yourself, you gain a much better understanding of the system and how it works. There are other books I'm reading about operating systems and not a lot of it really stuck or made sense until I started reading this book and messing with things myself through commands and editing files (and editing config files makes you feel like a computer wizard when you're starting out). And there's something about the way it's written, the language, the pacing, the occasionally joke that is just rare enough that it catches you off guard. My only criticism would be that the "Gentle Introduction to Vim" could have been a little more gentle. Perhaps by spacing it out over a couple of chapters to let it sink in rather than trying to remember all of the keyboard shortcuts that make vim what it is all in one chapter. But it's a minor point compared to how much I feel like I've learned reading this book.
I have a handful of books on Linux and Linux topics. If I could go back in time a few years and recommend one to myself, this would be THE book to cover Linux, without a question. There are two types of Linux books really: learning books, and reference books. This is a learning book. It gives you enough detail on commands and ideas to feel comfortable, but doesn't overload you with every detail--that's what the man pages are for! This goes through lots of important commands sorted into various topics, then finishes off with a very well-written and clear treatment of scripting in the last section. I love this book!! I love this book!! This book has helped me advance my career it was how I learned how to walk in linux using the command line! The only thing is that even though the book is not that old... being that RedHat 7 and Debian 9 are using systemd there is a few things here and there that have to be tweaked around either way the OS will redirect most of the commands. Great buy! If this book gets an update to use systemd I would definately buy it!!
When I downloaded this book I was completely unfamiliar with use of the command line. By the time I was a third of the way into the book I was very excited about what I was leaning. Another reviewer complained that the author did not present enough detail on some subjects, but I think that is unfair. Clearly, since the book starts with the very basic techniques it is directed toward people like me- people who are not familiar with command line techniques. Shotts gives clear examples of every command and ample opportunity to try out those commands. Most amazing, from my inexperienced point of view, is the fact that his examples worked perfectly and I didn't wreck my computer. As pointed out by other reviewers, his writing style has a friendly, informal feel and makes the new user feel like maybe he is not a complete idiot. I have finished about half of the book and am looking forward to the remainder. I'm sure I'll feel sorry when I finish the book but will want to find a followup that will expand my knowledge of the command line. Shotts has definitely made me want to learn all I can about the Linux command line.
I've read many Unix/bash intro books, looking for one place where I can learn the essentials. They're good but often talk about features I don't need and gloss over the practical, every day tasks I need to understand better. This one does a much better job of covering the commonly used tasks. But more, it explains a lot of the hidden gotchas and quirks of the command-line/bash environment that we need to know to make this stuff work. If anyone asks me what book to start with, I'd strongly recommend this one (as so many others have also).

It's only 72 pages, which includes the 24 illustrations. It more or less expands the codex entries from the game. A friend shared a video of Brian Bloom reading an excerpt from the story; however, the book he's holding looks like it has triple the amount of pages. Rather deceiving.I loved how characters from Dragon Age 2 had "cameos" (one in particular had me laugh a little because no way that would happen knowing this character).It was an interesting read but I would have liked to have seen a larger story. There was so much potential that more could have been built on the plot or continued after the end.
I enjoyed this book but I do have a few critiques.Firstly, the price is a bit steep for a 72-page story. I was expecting a full-length novel for the cost of this book, but it is actually a short story. It's not broken up into chapters or anything.At least it's a good story. There are some typing errors (quotation marks where none should be, and missing quotation marks where they should exist in the dialogue) but nothing major.The book is fully illustrated and the art is beautiful. There's a picture almost on every other page. (Of course, that means the book is more like 30-some pages and not 72.) But the characters don't look the same every time so I don't understand what that's about. There's a noblewoman who is central to the story, and in two pictures she is seen with short-cropped black hair, one at the beginning of the book and one at the end. But there's another page in the middle of the story where she has long, flowing hair and it's not shaded in. It doesn't make sense...So there are some editing errors in both the text and the artwork. But I was also expecting the book to feature the cast of Dragon Age II. A few of the characters are there, with changed names. For example, Fenris has become "Ferris" and is a bartender at the Hanged Man. Isabela is pretty much unchanged, and is called "Belladonna." Merill is in the alienage and Aveline is the captain of the guard, each also using an alias. If any of the other characters are there, however, I can't tell it.I'm not sure who the main character is even supposed to be, but the plot is about a man about to retire from the guard but first he wants to solve one final murder. So the story is a whodunit murder mystery. I liked the story but it was a bit predictable.A nobleman with an impressive collection of weapons tries to buy the very sword that slayed Andraste. But before he either pays for the acquisition or has it in his hands, he is found murdered. The retiree becomes a detective, trying to figure out who killed the nobleman and why. His trail leads him to Isabela's ship, where she tells him she procured the sword but never got paid before the man was murdered. And he isn't the last to die.I love a good murder mystery, but like I said, it's made pretty obvious early on who the culprit is. And the book concludes rather abruptly with little climax. What I really enjoyed about the story was the setting. I thought I knew Kirkwall, but the book talks about corners you don't actually get to explore in the game. For example, although we visit the elven alienage in Dragon Age II, the book also discusses a dwarven enclave and a foreign quarter where Orlesians and Antivans live. I found those sorts of details fascinating.And the book was well-written and descriptive, just as you might imagine Varric would write. There's even one point where he's struggling to find a way to elegantly describe Belladonna's ship and just gives up:The Dragon's Jewels was a big boat. The largest boat in the harbor. A carved figurehead of a woman painted in vivid colors and making a remarkably lewd gesture drew the eye past the more sedate merchant vessels. The pointy bits towered majestically over the water. The roundish wooden part seemed like it could crush armadas beneath its...s**t, I don't know, wood. It was the greatest boat in the history of boats.If you loved Dragon Age II, I think you'll enjoy this book a lot. If you haven't played the game, it will make you want to. There are a few nitpicky things but as a whole I thought the story was fun and I would read this again, even knowing whodunit in the end.
Fun for fans of the games, and it had some interesting descriptions and witty turns of phrase. I was really hoping for a noir-type mystery set in the Dragon Age universe, and it had the framework for one, but it wasn't fleshed out. The protagonist solved the case with little trouble and less effort, which kind of removed the conflict and suspense. If I wasn't such a fan of the series, I'd have been disappointed. But I love the (original, in-game) characters enough that they carried the three-star rating for me. But man, it could've been a real masterpiece with fully realized characters, some plot twists, more detail, and the sense of danger one experiences during the games, not knowing what's coming next. It's too bad that was absent.I was, however, pretty stunned by the numerous and fairly egregious punctuation errors, particularly involving dialogue punctuation. It was dozens, and I couldn't help but be distracted by them, along with missing quotation marks, etc. Can't help thinking Varric would've done better.
I’ve been a devotee of Messere Tethras for quite some time, but to be honest, this is the first of his books I’ve ever had the opportunity to read. What a delight! Action packed, beautifully illustrated, and full of mystery and mayhem from cover to cover. It left me in such high spirits, I immediately began planning a return visit to Kirkwall so I could once again see the book’s settings for myself. I do hope that Ms. Kirby persuades the author to collaborate with her again so that we might enjoy more of his genius in the future.
The cameos had me chuckling and the story was intriguing. It was shorter than I had anticipated but we can blame Aveline for that. Varric had promised Aveline just 3 more chapter and Donnic would be retiring because he was too old for this shit anyways.It was still a delight to read. For a Dragon Age fan it only enhances the submersion making you feel like a citizen of Kirkwall, reading the newest novella from everyone's favorite dwarf. It has left me to speculate though, which member of Hawke's little band of misfits is Donnen?

Like everyone else, I would have enjoyed something that would have taken more than twenty minutes to read, but I highly enjoyed those twenty minutes and I appreciate the artwork, so I’m happy with my purchase. I’m also a die-hard fan of DA2 (and Varric in particular) so I relished the opportunity to walk back to one of my favorite worlds.
I enjoyed it very much, despite it being a bit shorter than what I was expecting. The small things they add and the general cameos made me laugh. I would suggest it for any fan of the game!

I've always felt a huge interest for everything related to psychic abilities and the unconscious perception, so when I found this book I bought it immediately. The thing I enjoyed the most was the deep explanation that is given to every topic, including those "common" concepts as EQ or intuition. Another interesting aspects of this book are the references to famous people and their possible psychic abilities. Despite I'm a little bit sceptical I really liked this book and I recommended it to all my friends who are really into this. Excellent book!
This is a very interesting book for those in search of developing or discovering their extra sensorial abilities, it is a very simple and understandable book about what these things are, how to develop them and maintain them, the book is very well written and it is actually quite easy to follow and understand. The book also tells us about all the benefits we can get from correctly developing and using our extra sensorial abilities.
I absolutely think that psychic abilities can be developed in a certain way, that’s why I bought this book, as soon as I read the title it caught my attention as I have always thought that our minds are widely powerful. With this book the author really gives you a great introduction into the psychic world in such an easy way, and provides you with certainly fascinating information, I found it amazingly interesting.
I started to dog ear allot initially but then the rest of the book went into Chakras and meditation. It's the basic rule for meditation and it explains what Chakras are and do and for what. I thought that i would find something out i wasn't already doing but, he has a nice writing style. Easy to understand.When i got to the Empath chapter, that one got me cause he described me to the letter. Unfortunately, i did not learn any secret to Psychic awareness that i didn't try before.
This book gives a good explanation on how to start your development of your psychic abilities. We are all able to have these abilities however not everyone is aware of this . I enjoyed reading this book and learning more about these abilities and the encouraging words given by the author to not be discouraged if at first you don't get the results that you think should come quickly. It takes practice, patience and time.

DO NOT BUY AUDIO VERSION!!! The reader for this audio is absolutely HORRIBLE... The information seems interesting but I am unable to listen to it, and that voice.The speakers voice is very distracting and it is hard to concentrate on the information given. Will review again after I read the book.
