As the blurb says, this book is set in the Gilded Age, this particular story being set in 1901 New York City. This is the first book I have read by this author and from reading some of the reviews, I know this is the third in a series, but the reviewers also said it can be read as a stand-alone story.Gigi Wentworth closed her ears to family warnings, went her own way with disastrous consequences, and is now seeking to atone for her actions. Like many who make wrong decisions, Gigi feels that she cannot return to her family until she can redeem herself, sure that her family, especially her father, will not welcome her until she can. She is also sure that God has abandoned her and that she must make atonement so that God will forgive her and accept her once again. Even when a friend tells her that God will forgive if she will only ask, Gigi cannot bring herself to believe it, as she feels that if her earthly father won’t forgive her until she has redeemed herself, then neither will her Heavenly Father. When her childhood friend, Fitz, eventually finds her, her first reaction is to run, but she has committed herself to her employer so running is not an option. Gigi has a secret she won’t tell Fitz, and Fitz has a secret he won’t tell Gigi. Fitz feels he owes an enormous debt to his cousin and that the only way he can repay the debt lies with Gigi, and therein we have a complicated, yet simple story. This story has some wonderful characters, Gigi, the dazzling society beauty turned lady’s maid; the austere Fitz, who has personal troubles; Sophie, the troubled young lady who is yet more than a young woman on the fringes of high society; Esmeralda, Sophie’s mother, a larger than life character, an internationally renowned opera singer, with a diva’s temperament, but also a loving, and ambitious, mother. The storyline and characters pulled me in and the writing flows effortlessly, drawing me with it. The dialogue is natural and the prose is good. This is a story filled with angst, yet also has some delightful light-hearted moments and some tender ones. The concluding chapters have quite emotional tones, and I am pleased the story ends the way it does. It is realistic, but I can’t say more without giving away too much.I have given this book four stars because I do feel the angst lasted for too many chapters, and words used throughout the book, atone/ment, redeem/redemption, forgive/ness, are repeated so many times that they verged on the distracting.

Skipped pages and pages of this boring book. I'm sorry i bought it. Lots of wasted pages where the characters go on and on and on, waxing eloquently about why they are not suitable for each other. I get so tired of books like this. I don't understand why authors feel the need to waste so many pages restating and rehashing the issues over and over again, as if we didn't understand the issues the first time. This book was incredibly boring. I can't recommend it.

Because this Inspirational story was set at the turn of the 20th Century, I was surprised that it was not replete with Biblical verses, but the author penned a perfect cozy romance with tension and big moral issues. The author showed the protagonist in a real type of moral dilemma for the period. Gigi, daughter of blue blood Bostonians attempts to elope but finds herself stranded by the groom. Now considered a fallen woman, Gigi (calling herself Sally) fears going home to be rejected, finding herself taking on the duties of a maid and then finding a niche as a personal maid, who has the ability to provide etiquette to up and coming debutantes. But people from her past are searching for her and are getting close. And those who employ her are curious how a maid knows so much about proper decorum. As Gigi/Sally's two worlds begin to collide, will she become the prodigal child or a permanent outcast?Won as part of the Goodreads Firstreads giveaways

This is the first book by this author that I have read, but it won't be my last. Set in 1901 in New York City, Gigi Wentworth did a shameful thing when she ran off with a scoundrel of a man that her wealthy and respected family in Boston did not approve of. Now a year later, Gigi is hoping that she can redeem herself and return home. In the meantime, Christopher "Fitz" Fitzpatrick has been searching for Gigi. He is shocked to find her in New York City working as a lady's maid. As he gets reacquainted with her, he comes to realize that she has changed from the spoiled debutant that she used to be. This was a great read.

Renee Ryan show her art in spending the story with easy drama which keeps you reading till the end. I like how she finishes the story to the end. I enjoyed each character and how Renee moved her characters all through the story. Great love...Is shown through each couple, but the main characters love out shines them all. I can't wait to start book 4.

I just thoroughly enjoyed this story! Great characters with real chemistry portrayed and a deep abiding love for each other. Don't miss this!

Once an Heiress is an incredibly entertaining read. The author is new for me, but I will certainly be reading more of her work. I love the characters and felt as though everything Sally went through I went with her. What a good romance story.

first time I have read a book by this author great story really enjoyed it I would reccomend it jan
