A photography book that delivers as promised. Clearly written by a photographer. Provides just enough background information to improve readability and spark interest, but thankfully avoids yammering on about how the tectonic plates moved a bazillion years ago and created a tsunami that changed the climate resulting in the formation of sandstone beds...Anyway, this is a great book. Gives clear advice on photographing this region including directions on how to find interesting spots, what time of day might be best to show up, and what type of gear to bring.You should buy it.

LIDIA MATTICCHIO BASTIANICH is the author of 11 previous cookbooks and the Emmy award-winning host of Public Television's Lidia's Kitchen. She owns four acclaimed restaurants in New York including Felidia, Becco, Esca, and Del Posto, as well as Lidia's Pittsburgh and Lidia's Kansas City, co-owned with her daughter, Tanya. She is also a partner in the acclaimed Eataly, the largest artisanal Italian food and wine marketplace in the world, in New York, Chicago, Boston, and São Paulo, and with a store opening in Los Angeles in 2017. I have used this cookbook several times...the first being my daughter's 27th birthday....made the short ribs and they were yummy. I made the apple/cherry strudel for Thanksgiving and it was beautiful and good!
I own all, yes, all of Lidia's books-including the Nona (grandmother) series. They are my go to cookbooks for Italian-American. I have made so many dishes and enjoyed them.If you are able to visit one of her resturants-GO. It will be a memorable experience-incredible food and a very well trained staff.Lidia gives all excellent value with so very many recipes and excellent advice in this book.BUT.......I think that.....Entertaining just a few or a crowd require make ahead dishes......honestly, I would not fry anything when entertaining....it is so very last minute. To s include any except a few in a book about entertaining just does not work for me, and I think that no one should try to do any more than one last minute dish.I have already so many recipes that I will try.......and I am sure that they will be successful.One thing that I really love about Lidia's cookbooks and PBS show is that she always tells you to use what you have and what you, your family and your guests like. I would LOVE to see more gluten free, vegetarian and vegan dishes.So, four stars....too much needs to be prepared ahead of time......but buy it-you will be impressed.
This cookbook offers easy to follow instructions for preparing many delicious dishes, especially for entertaining. It's a great compliment to watching Lidia's TV shows!
My mother and I saw Lidia's show on the Create cable channel and we were immediately impressed with her style of cooking and the ease she has with simple recipes. We were so impressed, my mother ordered her book right after seeing her show just 1 time! The book is beautiful. Well-illustrated and amazing recipes. A great cookbook to have as part of your kitchen library! I highly recommend this book and this chef!
Any Lidia Bastianich cookbook is easy to read, easy to prepare recipes. I am extremely fond of all her soup recipes. The spicy Italian vegetable soup is a big hit at my house. The recipes correlate well with the cookbook. I have cooked several dishes and always get a big thumbs up. Only once did I mess it up. Love her. Love her cookbooks
There is so much information in her cook books I just love it. You get all the answers to questions you'd have in making the dishes. Just wonderful. Haven't found one recipe yet that we didn't love.
Saw her show on PBS. She Made a great looking lasagna and egg plant dish. Got the book cheaper on Amazon than it was on PBS.
I love watching Lydia on TV and am very happy to have one of her cookbooks. She has a straightforward manner of cooking that I really appreciate. This book exemplifies that.

Very well written and easy to follow. I bought this for my Medical Humanities class. It is actually very easy to follow along and I like how they author uses stories of their own or from other people. He explores many topics I did not think to consider until reading it. If you are curious about humanities in the health field and how to really understand people with different disabilities, this is really a good book to look into. I also like that he sections out the chapters so that maybe 3-5 chapters are in one section and they all have one idea in common.
The essays in this collection purport to set out a vision of the Health Humanities as an interdisciplinary field and also to provide an overview of key concepts, such as race, disability, death and dying, the body, and aging. I was disappointed that each section includes a set of articles on the key concept, but does not provide a general overview of that topic for newcomers to the field. I assigned this book in a graduate class hoping that students would gain a basic sense of key theorists, terms, and definitions for each topic. The book reads instead as more of a typical edited collection, so it was not useful for the purpose I imagined. I also hoped for more authors written by interdisciplinary teams of researchers, and more articles that explicitly described or modeled research methods and studies.

You'll get to meet people like Sherman Poppen, his Snurfer, and those inventive people who came after him in their quest to find the best snowboard. You'll learn about the half-pipe, how competitions came into being, how the sport went international, how women became involved, you'll learn about special boards made just for women, and you'll get to meet some of the pros.This is an excellent, concise overview of the history and women of skiing and snowboarding. It's a tall order to write about both sports in one book, but it was very well done and proved to be of high interest and was blended quite nicely. I especially enjoyed the mini-portraits of several historical and current greats in both sports. The "invention" of the modern snowboard was perhaps more accurate and detailed in this book than in others in that it cited more than one inventor rather than focusing solely on Jake Burton. The numerous informative sidebars were well placed and did not interfere with the flow of the book. The added interesting information such as the description of different types of snowboard tricks and a fascinating description of the historical origin of the Birkebeiner Race. This is one in the series, "girls play to win." There are numerous photographs of snowboarders, skiers, and high interest shots of stars in action. In the back of the book is an index, a glossary, and additional book, and web site resources to explore.

Bold statement, I know, but in my opinion Jeff has done what many have not been able to do in the past; develop a guide that is both easy to follow and very complete. I would not hesitate to recommend this guide to my IT guys as well as someone looking to learn about Wi-Fi that may not even know where to start. Both would find this guide book the most valuable book on their shelf.
In 2003, Duntemann came out with the first edition of this book and it was well received. Now, scarcely a year late, he has brought forth the second edition. One could be cynical and say that a second edition is in part to trigger users of the first edition to upgrade, much as some hardware and software vendors might so. But WiFi has been growing rapidly on several fronts. It is a measure of its vitality that in the space of a year, this new edition is indeed useful.Here are the salient recent developments, as explained by Duntemann. For starters, the IEEE 802.11g is now well defined and a slew of products has become available that support it. So much so that Duntemann recommends that you consider 802.11a products obsoleted by these, in most circumstances. Related to this, he provides an updated assessment of many types of 802.11 hardware.A common need by some WiFi users who travel is knowledge of public hotspots. A chapter is devoted to this topic, with summaries of major networks like Boingo and T-Mobile. A field in major flux.Every text on WiFi talks about security. Because when you use wireless, anyone in the vicinity could evesdrop. But this book is slightly unusual in the amount of attention devoted to it. Fully 5 chapters (a quarter of the book) expound on security. The level of this discussion is necessarily technical. But not forbiddingly so. Hopefully, most of you can glean something from this, if you pay attention.
It's a toss-up for me between this book and O'Rielly's "Wi-Fi Hacks" book. Both books have up-to-date, well written content. The Hacks books is organized more aggressively into a set form that may or may not appeal to you. This book has a more traditional topic based organization.Topics include antenna coverage and construction, operating system information and coverage of the different types of Wi-Fi security that are available.I recommend this book for anyone serious about building their own Wi-Fi networks. I don't recommend this book, or O'Reilly Hacks, for someone just looking for how to get their computer on a wireless network. For that I would recommend a book specific to their operating system.
The first edition of the WiFi Guide was considered by many in the wireless world to be the "bible' of WiFi. As hard as it may be to believe, the second edition is even better! Jeff has truly outdone himself with this version. All of the important information from the first edition is back, but this time the book is expanded to include a wealth of information the first only hinted at.If you are interested in how wireless networks actually work as well as how to secure them (at both the hardware and software level) this book is for you. Well done Jeff.
Jeff has put together a extremely useful guide to wireless networking. It is well organized, allowing quick access to specific topics, and broad enough to cover most relevant issues for smaller (and maybe some medium sized) networks. He wisely discusses that which is truly important, avoiding complexity when it is not needed.There is a considerable amount of practical advice, product information and helpful hints regarding installation, setup and security.This is not likely very usable for a novice, but would be helpful for anyone who has at minimum a basic understanding of networks.

A bright light for Wi-Fi instruction, it's an extraordinary volume. Both the novice and expert alike, would certainly find benefit from it well structured format.

This book has a lot of information but it is far from a beginner’s guide. It is poorly written and confusing. Presents a ton of information with very little explanation or definition of terms.
