This is not a coffee table book, it is more a of a memoir with images. But, the stories that Leifer tells about his subjects, or pursuing a shot, or relationships are terrific. There are so many great stories about not only his images but his experiences. Leifer might not be the greatest photographer, but his images are iconic, and the stories behind the images make them legendary.
Great book...photos as well as text! A must for every sports fanatic. Leifer's photographs are phenomenal and the stories behind these accomplished athletes a tribute to their drive and diligence.
First bought the book with high expectations for the photos. They did not disappoint, but the highlight was the author's narratives. And the many covers from SI and Time evoked memory after memory. The book's cover photo of Ali was especially poignant given his death in recent days. Thank you Neil!
Outstanding reflects from the great photographer Neil Leifer that goes beyond sports. A must read.

These 1920s-era cruisers were obsolete, but Pearl Harbor forced them to remain in service. Marblehead escaped the Japanese assaults in Borneo, and Raleigh absorbed a torpedo hit at Pearl Harbor. Most of these small cruisers performed dull but necessary patrol work. Book mostly features photos from naval maneuvers or yard refits. Not as many photos as in others in the series -- the book on the USS Wichita alone has a great many more views -- but I suspect these ships simply weren't documented as well as others. No combat shots. Brief descriptions and histories of each vessel in the class. Greatly enjoyed this snapshot of these obscure vessels in US Navy history.
This 56 page book has a wonderful assortment of photos and details of each of the 10 vessels that comprised the Omaha class. I have a good number of other Warship Pictorial books by this same author in my collection and this one is every bit as good. Steve Wiper has done the Omaha Class justice as it's one of the lesser known classes of cruisers that served our country during WWII.

I am a pre-kindergarten teacher, so I have four and five-year-olds. I have checked out dozens and dozens of books on behavior from the library and tried many different techniques and I could not seem to get my students to grasp the concept of how making one choice can lead to another etc. etc. Not only do the kids in my class have so much fun choosing Danny’s choices in the story, but they also love seeing how the story can change depending on what they decide for Danny. They are finally grasping the concept that not only can one bad choice lead to another and have an effect on others, but you can also change a bad morning into a great afternoon or vice versa. My students constantly ask me if we can “hang out with Danny†and I have everyone’s attention when I pull out this book, even the most difficult behavioral students. I wholeheartedly wish there were more books like this! My students are actually involved in the story instead of just listening. Active participators certainly learn more! Five stars all the way!!!
This is a wonderful book to help children understand the role their choices play in what happens next. My son is almost 8 and can easily tell what Danny should do, so he made all the right choices the first time through. But...he wanted to read the book again making all the wrong choices, then do a pattern of 'right/wrong' then 'wrong/right'. The book does such a nice job of showing how Danny's choices impact his day along the way and how his day can have ups and downs. As my son and I debriefed we talked about what choices my son would make, and he admitted times he'd want to make the right choice, but might make the wrong choice. We then talked about how everyone makes mistakes and what could he do to make amends when that happens.I am a graduate student going into school counseling. I like to try things out on my own son to see if I will use them with students in the future. I will definitely be using What Should Danny Do? and hope the authors create additional books.
For the first time, I wished I could give more stars than 5. Absolutely amazing book for 5-6yrs old. Got a lot freebies like a poster, stickers and a personal note from the authors.Our sincere request, please write more books like this. What an amazing book! "What Should Danny Do" is a choose your own adventure book that empowers children (and adults) to see the consequences of their own actions. As a parent, this book is so powerful. Flipping back and forth between scenarios open the discussion for the kids to see how Danny's day would change based on the decisions he makes...should he throw a tantrum for not getting the plate that he wants for breakfast or should he let it go and learn to share. Each situation is relevant to real life examples and drives the point home that our children have the ability to change their life. I bought this book for my home and one for my waiting room at my office. And then a 3rd to give as a present. This is an ideal book for parents, teachers, and anybody who takes care of kids. Read it together or on your own. The story line concept is so cool and the illustrations are phenomenal. Go buy it. 10 stars!
My kids live in a time of so much choice- so many options. Everything is available at the impulsive click of a button. This book helps my kids focus on the choices they make, the paths they can choose, and the results that follow. It returns the power to choose into their hands. It reminds them to be mindful of their actions and reap rewards for better choices. I can't think of a more powerful book for my children!P.S- It's also super fun to read ;) My 7 and 10 year old both love it!
I’d seen this type of book before- with multiple endings - but in books for older kids. This is exactly the right thing for 4-5 year olds... it shows a kid for whom the reader can make and change choices to change how his day goes. Life actually works exactly like that, whether you’re 5 or 50, but this is written in kid terms like this: What should Danny do: stomp really hard on Charlie’s foot, or tell Charlie that what he did wasn’t nice? And we turn to a different page and see what happens next based on which option the reader chooses. My 5 year olds were in a loud disagreement earlier tonight and I was able to suggest that they can choose what to do, giving them a couple of alternatives like the book does.. They were playing together again literally a minute after I said that. That book has paid for itself already! I highly recommend it.
The idea behind this book is really cool. You flip to different pages depending on what the child chooses and it changes the story. However, the consequences were very vindictive and dramatic and there was not emotional support modeled from the parent. If you practice gentle parenting and your goal is to maintain a good relationship with your child, this is not the book for you.
This book is ingenious. The scenarios are all very relatable and happen on a daily basis to all kids. Makes them realize that they have "The Power to Choose" between the right thing to do and the wrong thing to do all the time.

This is a must get and read for anyone who is going to take the oral board exam in pediatric dentistry.I felt that it helped me to get a mind set and self test myself.It helps you to organize in your mind the extensive material that is necessary to prepare for the exam.I read it cover to cover and would recommend this to anyone who would like to take the oral boards.
This book is very helpful but it needs to be revised. Several errors were found. Quality of x-rays need to be improved as well.

Our church in Poolesville, MD decided to have a few sessions on the nature of Islam. We were inspired by a talk given to us by Bishop Chane of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, who has traveled in the Middle East and met and spoken with representatives of many faiths and persuasions. He emphasized that Christians, Jews, and Muslims are all descendants of Abraham. We share many more beliefs than we might imagine. Both Jews and Christians and Muslims share the Old Testament. In fact, as Bishop Chane told us, the Koran has more references to the Virgin Mary in the New Testament than the Gospels.So I ordered the Qur'an = Koran to find out for myself. I was charmed by the passages declaring God's mercy, and to see all the references to Moses, Jesus, and many others in the Bible. This version of the Koran, translated into English by Alan Jones, was recommended to me by a distinguished professor of Islamic Studies at a major Ivy League university. Jones is a noted scholar of Arabic studies. His new translation is based upon years of study of the Koran. It has a wonderful introduction, telling much about the prophet Muhammad and the foundation of Islam.Before denouncing Muslims as terrorists we must understand that all three faiths--Christian, Jewish, and Islam have bred individuals who have invoked their religion to oppress and even kill people. They are not supported in any way by any scripture whatsoever. Reading this latest translation has not only given me hope. It has also brought me to the realization that we can all live in peace if we will just try to understand. Read the Koran. Together we survive; divided we fail.
This translation/interpretation joins the ranks of the very best that attempts to capture some of the meaning of the Koran; it contains none of the Arabic text of the Koran. I would read this translation/interpretation in conjunction with M. A. S. Abdel Haleem's, Arberry's, Asad's, Pickthall's, and Cleary's translative/interpretative efforts. I look forward to Jones's synoptic commentary of the Koran as based on classical literary sources in a pending volume.

I got this book based on several people recommending the Lonely Planet line of books and I was not disappointed, except that we couldn't stay longer to actually learn more of the language. Nicely laid out with good conjugation charts and tips on who to speak the difficult, profuse vowel sounds and included lots of useful phrases. Not that we really needed them, because everyone spoke very good English!
This little book is so good. It has phrases for just about any situation you find yourself in. It covers dating, banking, shopping and every thing else.I have a knowledge of dutch, so it was easier for me to get into.I cannot imagine someone who has no knowledge of the language finding it easy to use though.
I have another phrase book that is a little shorter than the Lonely Planet version, so Bought this thinking it would expand on the quantity of useful phrases. I found that it was missing some key, basic phrases, such as "What is the way to ...?" and " I would like a table for 2 people" that the shorter competitor has. It also had entire sections that were interesting to read, but not really useful as a general phrase book for travel. Such is why ai am disappointed.
Pronounciation guide written from a Brit's point of view I think. A little confusing for Americans.
I like this little book, so does my husband. I am Dutch, born and raised and bought it for my American husband whom wants to learn Dutch. He takes it to work every day because it is so easy to take with you.
Use it for my family history research. Help[s to translate dutch and pronounce names correctly.
