This is a mediocre novel and an awful textbook for technical-minded people. Some conflicts are set up and never resolved, and the protagonist is the most boring example of a suit I've ever read. The asides where it goes into what he's thinking distract from the business scenarios, especially when he starts thinking about his personal life. Nobody talks like a real person would - the only realistic characters in this book are the CEO and the security guy. Real life experience is a better teacher than this book.
I bought this book for school, it was out course textbook. The book is very well done, and easy read, that is so entertaining with a wealth of information. The character development as they work through the workplace challenges, personal conflicts, stress of the job, and also win can be easily adapted to any workplace. I bought the Kindle version.
After reading the Phoenix Project and loving it, I was looking for another similar book. I stumbled upon this and gave it a shot. I finished reading it in 2 days and loved every second of it. The emphasis here isn't the technical tidbits, but rather the business side, which I think a lot of us in IT ignore or refuse to try to understand. This also makes it much more approachable for people just entering the IT field. It also tries to quantify IT as a value generator instead of a black hole of cost in a way that I have no thought of before.I would recommend this book to anyone in IT, even the boots on the ground with no aspirations of moving into management.
As I continue to climb in my IT Career, operations comes more and more into focus and needing more of my attention. Simply moving into management as a tech is a difficult journey, and getting insights like this book can absolutely impact the way you think and observe. As I read this book I could look back at different times in my career and realize why something did or did not work, or even why some of the decisions were made the way they were. Highly recommend this for a tech or someone who interacts with a technical team. Will provide lots of insights and food for thought.
Not much to take from this book for in the real world and it was a bit anticlimactic but it was an easy and somewhat fun read.
I use this as one of the texts for an MBA course that I teach in Information Systems. The student feedback is overwhelmingly positive. In addition to being a fabulous read, the book captures the essence of several well known HBS cases including Boeing, Zara, IT Doesn't Matter, & Volkswagen.
Required reading for grad school. The scenarios are cheesy and meant to give a proper representation of strategic decision making-- but they just don't come across as valuable or logical. I'd rather just read a textbook or another case study for examples.
The book was written for entertainment value rather than learning. How fortunate of Jim Barton to have the perfect girl friend that has all the answers and can connect him with the right people. How lucky to run into a kid that is a billionaire. This book is "too good to be true" and does not reflect any real world situations. Completely impractical and nothing to gain.

You must read this book.When I first purchased it in January, I suggested that this volume may prove to be the most important book of 2018. Now that I have finished it, I believe that it is one of the more important theological contributions of this generation.Kaemingk writes with a clarity and conciseness that is hard to find, which allows him to cover a lot of ground in these 300 pages. This volume treats such diverse disciplines as sociology, anthropology, political theology, soteriology, ethics, and Christian mission, among others. While the focus of the book is the question of Muslim immigration and an appropriate Christian response, it has broader application to a variety of questions pressing the American Evangelical today.Again, at the risk of sounding over-the-top, I believe this is a crucially important volume to read. Evangelicals need to rethink our position and engagement in American society. This volume offers a thoroughly biblical and deeply thoughtful path for us to follow. My hat is off to Dr. Kaemingk.
I hope this gets a wide-circulation. A valuable resource for all of us. It's important to realize how fear can play into our politics and even Christian faith. Let's get the facts and Biblical storyline to be informed.
I was deeply touched by this book and couldn’t put it down. Though my theological journey has led to a different definition of some aspects of pluralism, this is a vivid and lucid witness that I affirm. Very insightful and thought provoking
Comprehensive. True. Timely. Powerful. Comprehensive: Kaemingk doesn't just tell Christians what to do. He lays out an ambitious framework for why. Why should Christians react with hospitality? Why should Christians support pluralistic policies and attitudes? Why should we be suspicious of relativism on the left and fear on the right? He gives the theology and historical context of his Christian pluralism space to grow and flourish. He doesn't languish in the minutiae, nor does he rush through the groundwork that is so essential for his argument. True: this book makes a convincing argument. Sincere Christians will find a severe challenge here as well as plenty to evoke hearty "Amen"s. This will be true for readers who identify themselves on the right or the left when it comes to theological and political questions. Whether it is his incisive analysis of modern political theology or his more intimate look at worship and how it forms the local community, Kaemingk simply brings a good word. Timely: the topic of Muslim immigration is heated and full of landmines. Kaemingk dives right into it - providing powerfully memorable stories to pull his reader along. In this book Kaemingk never leads us too far from the practical implications and haunting questions of Muslim-Christian relations. So this book could not be more timely. He spends time giving us the macro-level story of immigration, while reminding us of how this isn't some far-off hypothetical ethical conundrum dreamed up in an ivory tower. These are questions that affect our neighbors and our worship and our witness as Christians here and now. Powerful: the book begins with pictures of the chaos and fear that permeate these debates. It is an urgent topic. And we feel that in our guts. As the book closes, however, Kaemingk also introduces us to more tender, hopeful moments that can inspire Christian action: friends sharing a meal or conversation, a church warmly inviting people from another culture to cook for them and share their culture. Hearts and minds will be edified and, I dare say, transformed in wrestling with this necessary book. This is a cool head, warm heart, and promising "third way" in an age dominated by fear.
I am a pastor and also lead a refugee resettlement office in WA state. For those of us who work at the intersection of the church, public policy, and Muslim immigrants, this book is an excellent resource. Dr. Kaemingk carefully lays the historical and theological footing for followers of Jesus to walk the straight and narrow path of loving our Muslim neighbors. It is this path, of grace and truth, that can lead all of us to a more just and hospitable society. He draws from a careful examination of the Netherlands, which is about 15 years ahead of the US in experiencing a wave of Muslim immigration. I really appreciate that Dr. Kaemingk is honest about the challenges that come with immigrants who have different social practices and theological ideas then the dominant culture they enter. His suggestions for an appropriate Christian response are not wishful platitudes but rather real life, practical and very biblical actions. I will be sharing this book with others in my church and other pastors in my area because it does what all good theology does - it shows us how to faithfully live as followers of Jesus who bring the Bible to bear on real world issues that affect our society right now. Another great book this reminds me of is Evelyne Reisacher’s “Joyful Witness In the Muslim Worldâ€.
I cannot say enough about how important this book is. It helps us imagine what it looks like as Christians to be deeply rooted in Christ as we love our neighbors from very different religious and cultural backgrounds by looking at how this is happening in other cultural settings, exploring Scripture and our understanding of Christ in relation to pluralism, reminding us of the importance of worship in our formation as Christians, and inviting us to consider stories of real people trying their best to honor Christ and embody hospitality in their daily lives and callings. It's exceptionally readable and inviting. I can imagine those in ministry reading this book as they seek a vision for how to live and how to encourage those in their ministries to live faithfully as Christians in a complicated cultural time, it would be great for a thoughtful book group to discuss, and should get lots of classroom use in Christian higher ed.

A perfect gift for a new Episcopalian. An Episcopal service is rich with liturgy, ritual and tradition, dating back to Henry VIII. Unless the newcomer has come from a Roman Catholic background, he/she will likely be confused about sitting, standing, kneeling, use of the Book of Common Prayer and the Eucharist. This is indeed a handbook! The author not only explains the Episcopalian worship service in detail, but provides background information on the whys.
This is an excellent handbook--regardless of whether you are an inquirer into the Episcopal Church, are a new Episcopalian, or even are an Episcopalian of many years. It is written in a very easy-to-read style, with many entries written on the lighter side. A lady at our church had this book, which was used in some training she previously attended, so after thumbing through her copy, I bought one and am very pleased with it. Oftentimes, we forget some of the aspects of our heritage or forget why we do certain things. This book addresses many things Episcopalian, and most of the entries are brief enough that one or two can be read in only a few minutes--until the next opportunity to read more arises. I highly recommend it.
The book gives a lot of solid information on the Episcopal way of following Christ, often with some welcome humor. It is an easy read, yet very worth reading. The book gives you a chance to experience first hand the mixture of relaxed humor and awed seriousness that often characterizes Episcopal worship. I think this is essential reading for someone thinking of becoming part of an Episcopal congregation, and it will be a good refresher of the essentials for long time members.
As someone new to this faith, I have found this book to be interesting, entertaining, and informative. It is very accessible, and should provide answers to many questions on the minds of others wishing to know more about this religion. I find myself refering to it often, and I do not hesitate to recommend it to others.

This book is great. It is in question format, with wonderful answers. It's written in a light and sometimes humorous way, and I am finding it fun to read while I learn about the religion I have returned to.
Am reading this book for Lent. Will start it on Wednesday, February 10th. I have a very good friend who is Episcopal, I like his church, so wanted to know more about it. I was born into the Methodist church, and besides Baptist, do not know very much about other denomations. I think this is a good starter book, but I plan to delve further. Will keep you posted!!
